Goal: Electrify buildings, increase building efficiency, and transition to renewable electricity.

Electrification & Efficiency

What is Electrification?

Electrifying buildings by replacing fossil fuel systems with efficient electric technologies is a key long-term strategy for reducing emissions in Bellevue. For homes, that can mean upgrades like heat pumps, electric stoves, and electric water heaters. These upgrades are all more energy efficient than traditional fossil fuel options, meaning they use less energy while still delivering the same comfort and performance - saving you both harmful emissions and money on your energy bill.

Businesses will need to play a major role too, with 19 million square feet of commercial building efficiency upgrades needed over the next five years to support the 50% GHG reduction goal. Bellevue has supported over 200 commercial buildings in benchmarking and identifying opportunities to reduce energy use.

Electric stoves are safer than traditional gas models because they don’t release harmful pollution into your home or rely on an open flame.
